ABOUT MICHAEL DEHASPE

 

 

Michaël was born in Belgium on 11 July 1966. He studied photography and cinematography at the Sint. Lukas Academy of Arts in Brussels.

​

He specializes in travel and tourism, portraits, and gastronomy.

​

Michaël’s first photography assignment, which was 20 years ago, was accompanying the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and documenting their humanitarian work.

​

With over two decades of experience in travel photography and having visited and photographed more than 100 countries during his career, it’s no surprise that national, regional, and international travel publications, as well as international NGOs including Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (Doctors Without Borders) and Handicap International, commission him to create the most stunning images for their editorial features and reports (including short documentaries presenting their work).

In 2011, Michaël was commissioned for the first time by the Flemish Tourism Board (Flemish Government of Belgium) to create portraits of young chefs for a campaign called Jonge Keuken Geweld (Young Kitchen Rebels) that aimed to promote the restaurants run by a specific group of young, talented chefs of Flanders, Belgium, who were jury-selected each year. The images of these young talents have been used in (Flanders) Belgium’s advertising and promotion campaigns throughout the world.

For five consecutive years (2011–2015), Michaël was behind the creative concept, art direction, and production of all images (chef portraits; gastronomy; restaurant interior, exterior, and ambiance; kitchen team) and short films for the Jonge Keuken Geweld campaign. His photographs contributed immensely to the incredible success of the campaign and Flemish (restaurant) tourism every year, including part of the success of these young chefs’ careers.
